Episode 67: Tony Dowe, former MD of TWR and Jaguar Racing USA in conversation.

This week’ the podcast returns with a very special guest who was pivotal to the success of TWR Jaguar.

Originally from Weston-super-Mare in Somerset. Tony Dowe started racing in Karting. Today, his impressive CV of racing teams and indeed famous drivers that he has worked alongside reads like a ‘who’s who” of motorsport.

In 1981, Tony Dowe became chief mechanic with the Chaparral Indy car team before being appointed Team Manager of Newman-Haas Racing team and in 1984 took the team and Mario Andretti to the Indycar championship title. However, in the summer of 1987, following a meeting with one Tom Walkinshaw, he moved to Valparaiso, Indiana, to set up TWR Inc.

Whilst racing Jaguars at TWR, his team won a total of 16 IMSA GTP races with the Castrol Jaguars including three Daytona 24 Hours victories (in 1988, 1990 and 1992) with such drivers as Martin Brundle, John Nielsen, Raul Boesel and Davy Jones. In 1990 Tony Dowe ran one of TWR team's four Jaguar XJR-12s in the Le Mans 24 Hours and won the race with Martin Brundle, John Nielsen and Price Cobb driving.

In this podcast, Tony Dowe shares with us some of the incredible behind the scenes stories from that era of his career and gives us a unique insight into the phenomenal racing success of TWR Jaguar in the late 1980s, early-1990s.

Plus, we share the latest news and hear from Matthew Davis on how he got on at the final round of the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club Race Championship.
